Dear Friends:
You are receiving this message because you have indicated your support for the New York State Principals' Open Letter Regarding the NYS APPR Legislation (http://www.newyorkprincipals.org/). We thank you for your support and would like to provide you with an exciting event that happened last week.
1) Niagara PTA Passes Emergency Resolution Against APPR
Late last week, the Niagara Regional PTA passed an emergency resolution against the overtesting of students in New York State schools and the evaluation of teachers and students based on test scores. This enormously important resolution will be submitted to the New York State PTA convention this fall. Please read the resolution and its press release through the following links:
This is such an important event! Please share this resolution with parents in your district! Encourage your local PTA to craft a similar statement! Parents can truly make a significant difference in this push to redirect our schools to a better path for our students.
2) New Teacher Evaluations Start to Hurt Kids
Carol wrote a recent piece about how the new teacher evaluations are starting to hurt kids. In this piece, Carol makes reference to a survey conducted by New York Principals and analyzed by Harry Leonardatos, Principal of Clarkstown North High School (note that the Clarkstown North PTA signed our APPR Letter last year). You can read Carol's article here: http://goo.gl/ULUsv
3) Would Your Principal Follow Up with this Letter?
In our September 26th update, we made reference to a letter sent by Dr. Don Sternberg, principal of Wantagh Elementary School and one of the original signatories of our APPR Letter. One of our New York colleagues (and early supporter of our Position Paper), sent home a parent letter that has received a lot of attention recently.

Please read Don's follow-up letter, in which he encourages everyone to be more active in expressing their concerns about what is happening to schools across our country.

Have a terrific week!

Sean and Carol
